The Year of The Supervisor and Continued L&D Growth at ISS

ISS has a strong reputation of investing in our people to create the best service outcomes for our Australian and New Zealand customers. We have targeted programs for our directly-employed staff at every level of our business, from Key Account Managers through to Supervisors, Front Line employees and Service Support Staff.
2019 has been a year of continued focus on Learning and Development across all areas of our business. This year, we had a particular spotlight on Supervisory development, in a year dubbed the “Year of the Supervisor”! Following a focus on Key Account Managers in 2018, we targeted the Supervisory level this year to accelerate their skills and confidence to lead their teams.

The “Year of the Supervisor” has included the completion of 13 Pacific Supervisory Mastery (PSM) intensive sessions with over 148 ISS Supervisors. Further to this, many Supervisors also completed additional training to enhance their knowledge and skill-sets, including Supervisory Mastery 1.0 in New Zealand and IR Accelerator and Supervisor Fundamentals in Australia.

Many of our current customers would be familiar with ISS’ powerful ‘Service With A Human Touch’ program, where we drive customer-focused behaviors and mindsets in our teams. This training is strongly entrenched in our organization and has been completed by thousands of ISS employees. In 2019 we continued this successful training across our contracts and also we created four ‘Service with a Human Touch’ showcase accounts, who embedded the principles through 20 different implementation activities.

With our management level, 21 ISS leaders completed our 6-day intensive Leading the ISS Way program, which focusses on developing leadership skills, leading others and ultimately how to lead the business. Leadership Mastery, ISS’s Group senior leadership and executive programme continued in 2019 with Stuart Rose, Chief Commercial Officer & Director of Strategy, successfully graduating from the programme and Jonathan Reeves, Executive General Manager – Aviation and Transport being invited to the programme this year.

ISS Pacific has also been proud to adopt our Global Management Trainee program locally, which develops a pipeline of operational leadership in our business. In 2019, our first GMT graduate, Sarah Nash, was placed in a permanent role as Contract Manager at Griffith University, using the operational knowledge she gained in the 18-month program. In 2019, we welcomed two new GMTs, Jake Snehotta and Nick Dimcevski. Fardis Farzaneh and Cooper Verdon were selected to join ISS as our 2020 GMTs.

ISS is proud of the richness of our L&D programs and the benefits this provides our staff and customers. It is what sets us apart in the industry and creates a generation of workers who have the customer’s purpose at their core.
