About ISS

Inclusion and Diversity at ISS

"Building Strength from our diversity and empowering all our people to reach their potential" - ISS Inclusion & Diversity Commitment
ISS is a people organisation comprising of more than 14,000 unique individuals. We are committed to creating an inclusive, supportive and flexible workplace where all our people are treated fairly and with respect. This includes establishing an environment that builds strength from our differences, promotes gender balance at all levels in our organisation and generates equal opportunity for all staff.

At ISS, inclusion and diversity embraces all the ways in which people differ – both visible and invisible. We view inclusion and diversity in the broadest sense, encompassing age, gender, ethnicity, nationality, culture, language, religion, sexual orientation, physical ability, experience and caring commitments.

In 2016 ISS began the WGEA Employer of Choice for Gender Equality (EOCGE) citation process with the Australian Government, to formalise our commitment to achieving gender balance in our workplace. Driving our journey is our I&D Committee, which includes our CEO and members of our Leadership team, dedicated to embedding our WGEA goals within the ISS culture across both Australia and New Zealand, and establishing a broader focus on equity and opportunity for everyone in our organisation.

At ISS, we truly believe in the positive power of diversity. Leveraging and celebrating our differences builds our organisational strength and leadership as a people-focused business.

What Inclusion & Diversity means to us:

Achieving greater gender balance across the organisation and within leadership positions is a key priority for ISS. As such, we have set ambitious gender equality targets for the next three years. Our goals will realise a higher representation of women in senior management roles, backed by more training for career advancement and deliberate succession planning to ensure a balanced pipeline of talent. This includes strategies for targeted recruitment processes aimed at achieving more balanced recruitment outcomes, including training to counter ‘unconscious bias’.

Ensuring Learning & Development opportunities are universally available also forms part of our equal opportunity strategy in empowering all staff to reach their potential.
Gender Pay Equity is a fundamental cornerstone of equality in the workplace. ISS is working to achieve salary parity by establishing salary bands for all equivalent jobs by 2020. Annual salary increases during parental leave is also fully supported, ensuring new parents have equal pay entitlements.
ISS is committed to providing our staff with a physically and psychologically safe space. Our Anti-Bullying and Domestic Violence policies form part of our ‘safe space’ support strategy and govern our approach to supporting staff. We recognise the devastating impact domestic violence can have on the lives of those who experience abuse, including their work and financial security. ISS is committed to supporting employees who experience domestic violence and providing the flexibility to support them to live free from violence.
True diversity comes from ensuring candidates from all cultures and social backgrounds are considered during recruitment. ISS' Inclusion & Diversity Strategy is founded in the ISS Values and a deep respect for Indigenous peoples and the traditional owners across Australia and New Zealand. ISS is also committed to increasing employment opportunities for Indigenous peoples, people with a disability and migrants.
Ensuring the success of our I&D culture strategy are the tools with which we communicate and effect change. ISS understands that developing a genuine and holistic I&D culture requires a 360-degree approach, not merely from the top down. We will continue to build on key culture tools such as I&D Shares at all site tool-box talks and cultural calendar celebration events to ensure widespread and continuous conversation about the benefits of Inclusion and Diversity, and ensure a transparent and safe space for all our staff.
